Science and Computers

This course is taught at the USI (Università della Svizzera Italiana) for people of the second year of the Informatics faculty. The purpose of the course is to present some important areas of application of computers in science, in particular in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The fields covered in this course include simulations of dynamical evolution, Monte Carlo simulations, optimization algorithms, bioinformatics, scientific visualization and neural networks. The main ideas of the methods will be explained and illustrated on selected applications.
